StoryLand

So yes, on September 3, 2011 we had the StoryLand experience. Below is some vid I shot on my droid.

I barely remember going here when I was about 6, and on this day it was time to bring my boy. It was a good time. We cant wait until next year. Note to self: bring hand sanitizer.

Went to Hungary

The Family had a fairly good trip to Budapest. I'll hold off on calling it a vacation because there was really no relaxing..  95% our time was spent going between family members houses, depending where we were staying.
Even when we went out to Lake Velence you still have to deal with worrying about people stealing shit or where Sam was running off to, or holding a conversation with your wifes cousin.
And it was so fucking hot the whole time. and no one has a god damn fan blowing, anywhere. I think electricity is really damn expensive or something.
Anyway, Ill stretch this out into a few posts to capture parts of it. I did manage to keep a handwritten day by day journal upto date.  That works out well and is something I have done in the past.  Not only do i keep a written log of the day but I keep tickets, receipts and other small papers in with it as mementos.

In the picture above is the Kiss (pronounced Ki-sch) residence, Wifes grandparents.  Their property (~45 ft x 250ft). called in the family 'The Garden' has everything. Very self sufficient.  Cherries, loads of grapes, apples, apples, peaches, cabbage, raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, garlic, onion, peppers, squash, kohlrabi, chickens, aloe, beans, and tons more.  It is jam packed with every bit of land growing something.  It the shit were to hit the fan, this is where you'd want to be, or at least have something equal.  The cellar under the house is a cold cellar.  Down here the wine and palinka is made and stored and the apples from last season were still perfect.

And since you can access the wine right from the barrel in the cellar you might was well have some, even if it is only 8am.

Day Trippin'

Plans can change quickly some days. It was Sunday and my brother had just pulled into the driveway. We were planning on going out for a bike ride, get some exercise, work up a sweat, strain the muscles, burn the lungs and rest our minds. It can be a religious experience.

*ring ring*

'Hi Ma.'
'Oh your going to Phippsburg today?'
'Yeah sure we'll come down.'

Phippsburg is a small coastal town south of Bath. It's only about 40 minutes from our house and it is a beautiful place to hang out for the day. The riding could wait. Plus, LilGuns will get to see his Gram, Grand Aunt/Uncle and Great-Grandma. And of course they want to see him even more.
I ended up taking the longest possible way down, because I hadn't been there in years and I just couldn't remember any other way to get there. But the drive down was really nice. Long two lane roads. Tree covered. Hilly and winding. Rock outcrops just inches from leaving a big 'ol scratch down the side of the car. Drive carefully.
The camp is on Winnegance Bay in Phippsburg. The water is 30 feet off the dock. Stripper and blue fishing is awesome here. The year my brother caught the big bass, he got a 23 pound blue fish. Fought it for nearly an hour before landing it into the 12 foot aluminum row boat. The fish fight of his life.
The picture is looking northeast from the camp yard. The foreground shows a shell midden that contains lots of Quahog clam shells. We suspect the origin of the midden is from a local indian tribe. But that is speculating some.
The rocks are devonian age granites intruded into schists of the Cape Elizabeth formation.

More snow and some LG

Grandpa came up on Saturday. We taught LilGuns how to play Cribbage.
Then ANOTHER storm came in Monday morning dropping an additional 10 inches of snow. *woo* The nice thing was the timing. I stayed home from work with Wife and LilGuns. He's so damn cute. I think my kid is the cutest ever. All your kids are ugly in comparison. But doesn't every parent think that? Every normal one anyway.
And of course a shot of me clearing the driveway. *w00t*

Blog Genesis - My Daily Journal (1)

I started this blog some time in 2004. The original idea of doing this came to me after my mom gave me a journal that my grandfather wrote in 1971. He wrote his as part of an assignment upon returning to school at age 40. It is the only real insight I have of him and is a good look into that time. With all that in mind back in 2004, I decided to make my own modern version.
Recently, I have been reading through it again, and it strikes me that his writings would make good posts.

Imagine after twenty-five years, to be back in school.
All those wasted years working as a common laborer. First, as a warehouse worker, then as a baker, and finaly as a clicker die worker. If it wasn't for the repeated operations, on my left elbow, I would still be there, in the world of drudgery, and what have I got to show for my toils? A limited vocabulary but with a mind that can be healed through hard work and study.
I am grateful to be able to have an oppourtunity for a new and exciting career. Optomistic but never pessimistic. As the saying goes, "The finer things in life are never easy to achieve".
